Local food strategies can be extensive, covering a wide variety of food system partners and activities. They are multi-stakeholder plans and as a result engagement and delivery can sometimes lack effectiveness. Fork was engaged to sharpen the Local Authority’s response and break down silos of activity within the organisation. We ran 5 workshops focusing on activating food within Regeneration and Economic Development, Neighbourhoods (including markets, parks and housing) Procurement, Commissioning and Work & Skills, Public Health and Education & Social Care.

We developed an appropriate food-system educational framework and action planning session directed at each group of participants. We focused on where food connects with their work, we looked at where they had direct control of decisions and connected soft influence. From there an internal action plan was created which Manchester City Council’s Policy Team coordinate and manage and this in turn feeds into the Manchester Food Board. 65 senior decision makers attended.

“It was a brilliant workshop, could listen to you all day! You had plenty queuing up to speak with you after.”
